Snow Snakes

In February 2009, the students began work on Snow Snakes. Snow Snakes is a traditional Ojibwe game that forms the basis for this curriculum that integrates culture with the study of physics. In the pictures below students are working on prototypes for the large snow snakes to be designed for the Snow Snake festival in March.

During Spring 2010, teachers from our partner schools and three other reservation schools implemented the snow snake curriculum in their classrooms. Picture from the March 2010 snow snake festival are shown below.

For 2011, students will be preparing for the 3rd annual snow snake festival on Friday, March 4th at the American Indian Resource Center on the campus of Bemidji State University. In preparation for the event student and teachers are encouraged to work through the snow snake curriculum. The following materials provide students and teachers all the information they need to be successful at this years event.
